Ants
An average full size nest can hold many thousands of individuals, most of
which are sexless females ( workers ). The winged variety of ants that you
may see during the late summer are the sexually mature males and females
which will mate on the wing. The males usually die soon afterwards and a
proportion of the mated females will survive to form new colonies.
These ants have a wide range of tastes in food and their foraging through
the soil and over different foodstuffs can result in the accidental
contamination of foods.
Am I living with ants;
The main indication that you may have an infestation of ants is by sight.
You may also notice that the sand between your paving slabs or pathways
or at the foundations of buildings has fallen away or pushed up to the
surface.
What do I do?
The first thing to do is DON’T PANIC. The most effective way to control
an ant infestation is to call a trained, qualified professional who will be
able to identify and control your infestation efficiently and safely.
Why call the experts;
It is very important to correctly identify the and extent of the infestation so
that the most effective and safe control measures are employed, whether
they are mechanical or chemical.
Before deciding the best course of action, our experienced technicians will
conduct a safety survey of your site, taking into account whether there are
children, pets or any other safety issues and will consult with you so that
all of your questions can be answered.
The main causes of the failure of DIY control are;
*Incorrect identification of species.
*Lack of knowledge of biology and behaviour
*Incorrect use of insecticides that lead to failure of treatment and the
migration of the colony to another nest site.
*Failure to identify entry and access points
